In
years to come, the legend will be told among the daughters of Glasgow: "It
was 46 inches tall, 60 inches in diameter and took 42 hours to bake".
At Princes Square on Thursday morning,
shoppers saw it with their own eyes: the world's largest cupcake.
Created
by Liggy's Cakes, the baker which supplies Fifi and Ally in the center, the
glorious pink confection was made to celebrate itison.com being named
Scotland's favorite daily deals website by a poll, carried out by Progressive,
of more than 7,000 Scots.
The
site, which has more than 300,000 members, has sold more than 400,000 cupcakes
since its launch in January 2011 - so the choice seemed obvious.
The
cake, weighing in at 1,176.6kg, included 20 inches of pink butter cream icing.
Liggy
Morgan, owner of Liggy’s Cakes, said: “The team at Liggy’s Cakes absolutely
relish a challenge so when we were approached by itison.com to bake the world’s
largest cupcake we absolutely jumped at the opportunity.
"We
have worked through the night to make sure the itison.com cupcake is looking
its absolute best for being unveiled to the public today and are delighted by
the number of people who have popped down to enjoy a slice."
